The shutters of the former café-restaurant Waldhaff had been down for five years due to a complicated legal battle with the former tenant.

This former meeting place is to be reopened soon after renovation work. However, local authorities and the Horesca representatives have concluded a significant amount of money will need to go into the revival of the popular site.
The municipality of Niederanven has entered into a swap with the state and become the owner of the Waldhaff café-restaurant in the "Gréngewald", right next to the N11.
Whereas in the past, fishermen, hunters and farmers used to meet over soup in the Grunewald forest, the last tenant established a more upscale dining room right next to the N11, combining rustic elements with a champagne atmosphere.
However, the establishment was entirely disgraced after the Ministry of the Environment had filed a complaint as the extensive renovations were found to be illegal.
Five years later, the site's renovation is looking at a budget of between 3 and 5 million euros, according to François Koepp, secretary general of the Horesca, in order to transform the project in the best way possible.
The kitchen, sanitary facilities and veranda all require renovation, and the municipality plans to expand the surface area of the building.
According to Koepp, the investment will be worth it in order to attract the public to the site. He believes the potential of the renovated Waldhaff restaurant is enormous.
Despite the high cost of the project, the municipality wants to carry out the project. LSAP representative Jean Schiltz states the sum comes as no surprise, but it is a lot of money nonetheless which needs to be spent wisely. He also adds that arrangements have been made with the state: a piece of land in Niederanven will be granted to build a police station.
There is no forecast so far for how long the Waldhaff project will last or details of the renovation plans. However, the works are expected to be completed quickly so as to find a new operator as soon as possible.
