Football dominated Luxembourg's Google searches in 2024, with the UEFA Euro 2024 topping the list, while broader interests ranged from the US election to the first KFC opening in the Grand Duchy.

As we are approaching the end of 2024, Google has unveiled the top search trends in Luxembourg for the year, with football dominating the overall ranking. The most-searched event was the UEFA Euro 2024, followed by the African Cup of Nations in second, the Copa America in fifth, and Spanish rookie Lamine Yamal in ninth place.

Interestingly, the Paris Olympics did not even make the top 10 sporting events.

Liam Payne, the former member of One Direction who died during the year, was one of the most-searched celebrities of 2024. As was Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge and wife of Prince William, who revealed that she was battling cancer.

People in the Grand Duchy also kept a close eye on Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election back in November and became the sixth-most searched term of the year.

The death of French actor Alain Delon and the release of the iPhone 16 announced in September were also among the top searches by Luxembourgers.

The top 10 is rounded off by the opening of the first KFC in the Grand Duchy.

In addition to these ten most popular searches, Luxembourgers also asked Google many questions over the course of the year. These included "how to vote in the Luxembourg elections", "how to draft a letter of authorisation", and "how to recover inadvertently deleted conversations on Telegram". Also high up were "deleting an Instagram account", "deleting a Facebook account", and "congratulatory wishes for Ramadan".

Similar interest was shown in HTML coding and calculating percentages. Some users also used Google to find out "how to hide your number". The last search is more synonymous with saving money: "How to get 3% VAT in Luxembourg?"
