While the government already announced plans to nationalise Luxembourg's blood donations service, Minister of Health Martine Deprez now also confirmed that homosexual men will finally be allowed to donate blood as part of the reform process.
On Thursday, Minister of Health Martine Deprez once more confirmed plans to reform and nationalise Luxembourg's blood donation system.
The Luxembourg Red Cross, which currently administers blood donations in the Grand Duchy, sounded the alarm in November after its reserves were almost depleted. The organisation is also in negotiations with the National Health Fund (CNS) to review what it characterises as "outdated" price rates for blood donation products.
Minister Deprez stressed that as part of the reform process, homosexual men will finally be allowed to donate blood as well. A corresponding regulation is "almost complete," Deprez assured.
