Following a sluggish start, the special parliamentary committee on the Caritas scandal officially began its work on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Caritas special parliamentary committee held its first hearings, which focused on representatives from the public prosecutor's office and the Financial Intelligence Unit.

While no comments were made about the investigation itself, MPs received detailed explanations on how executive phishing schemes, also known as CEO scams, work. After the hearing concluded, some members of the committee stated that they learned that criminals tend to always be one step ahead of law enforcement in this area.

MPs across party lines agreed that the Caritas investigation is hampered by a lack of resources, noting that the public prosecutor's office needs more investigators on the case.

The goal of the special parliamentary committee is not to conduct a parallel investigation, but to recommend potential legislative adjustments.
