Major rail disruptions are affecting southwestern Luxembourg after a bridge was struck near Pétange, forcing the temporary suspension of services on multiple lines.

Train services on key lines in the south-west of the country have been suspended due to a bridge strike near Pétange, the Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) has announced.

The incident, which CFL attributes to a third party, halted all train traffic in both directions on the Luxembourg City-Esch/Alzette-Rodange line between Differdange and Pétange, and on the Luxembourg City-Bascharage-Sanem-Rodange-Athus/Longwy line between Bascharage-Sanem and Pétange.

To facilitate passenger travel, CFL temporarily established a rail replacement bus service.

Shortly before 5pm, CFL stated that train services are gradually resuming on the Luxembourg City-Esch/Alzette-Rodange and Luxembourg City-Bascharage-Sanem-Rodange-Athus/Longwy lines, between Differdange and Pétange, and between Bascharage-Sanem and Pétange, respectively. According to CFL, some delays and cancellations may still occur while services return to normal.

Passengers are encouraged to check the latest travel information on the CFL website (www.cfl.lu) or via the official CFL mobile app.
