Luxembourg’s labour market is showing signs of strain, with rising unemployment particularly affecting qualified professionals and middle-aged workers.
The number of resident job seekers registered with the Public Employment Service in Luxembourg climbed to 18,920 at the end of September 2025, representing a 6.7% increase over one year. Qualified profiles are the most affected (+14.1%), followed by the 30–44 and over-45 age groups (+7.2%).
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stands at 6.1%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC). The professions most affected are accounting, secretarial work, IT and road transport.
Despite an increase in registrations with ADEM (+5.2%), the number of people receiving full unemployment benefits is falling (-5.4%). On the employer side, 3,350 job vacancies were reported in September (+7.7%), mainly in construction, but the total number of available positions remains stable at 6,668.
