This past weekend the traditional nut market took was hosted in Vianden, and the police also joined the festivities to check the speed limits and drivers under the influence of alcohol.
As ordered by the prosecutor’s office, the police had positioned themselves at three different locations, with the purpose of stopping drivers even without any noticeable alcohol influence.
All in all, the police stopped 710 drivers throughout the villages of Gilsdorf, Bastendorf and Stegen. 11 out of the 710 drivers had consumed alcohol, and among these, six can expect an official report.
Speed controls were not left out
At 4.20 pm, the police measured people’s speed on the A1 to Trier, focusing on the drivers heading to Germany.
One driver seemed to be particularly pressed for time. Instead of the allowed 90km/h, he topped the limit with 167km/h. He was pulled to the side and his driver’s license was confiscated as a consequence.
Then, at around 5am, the police was alerted of a vehicle driving in a zigzag pattern on the route de Luxembourg in Esch. A patrol was able to bring the car to a halt on the A4 just before the exit towards Leudelange. they conducted an alcohol test which was positive, resulting in a license confiscation.
