
Amid heightened border controls due to the European Football Championship, German federal police near Steinebruck on the German-Belgian border arrested the individual on Friday morning.
The driver was found under the influence of cannabis and amphetamines while in possession of significant quantities of drugs. Police discovered two kilos of amphetamines, 125 grammes of hashish, 40 grammes of marijuana, two ecstasy tablets, and nearly €2,800 in cash during a search of the vehicle.
Upon presenting a Portuguese driving licence, it was quickly determined to be counterfeit, revealing that the individual had not held a valid Luxembourg driving licence for some time. The driver was subsequently taken to a hospital for a blood test.
Later that evening, the 30-year-old was brought before the examining magistrate at the Trier district court. Following orders from the public prosecutor’s office, the individual was remanded into custody. Customs authorities in Kaiserlautern are now conducting further investigations into the case.
