Solidarity Pack 2.0Government to help finance 85 photovoltaic projects as part of energy transition

In an effort to further the ongoing energy transition, the government will support businesses with setting up photovoltaic installations over the coming months.

The energy crisis is a challenge for most businesses, particularly those requiring large amounts of electricity in their daily operations. Apart from a number of subsidies for private households, the government recently launched an appeal to business owners to install solar panels on their rooftops so they can cover the majority of consumption themselves.

The Solidarity Pack 2.0 stipulates that the government supports businesses in their energy transition with €16 million in a first phase, and an equal amount to be allocated later in a second phase. 85 projects across 75 businesses have already been retained in the context of the initiative. The photovoltaic installations, which rival the combined total installed in the Grand Duchy between 2010 and 2018, are expected to produce 46 megawatts in the span of 18 months.

According to Minister for Energy Claude Turmes, the government has thus far helped finance 36% of projects located in industrial zones. “This is exciting as we also have projects for which we had few or no solutions so far”, noted the Greens politician.

From ArcelorMittal and Guardian Luxguard to local bakeries and car mechanics, the range of businesses able to benefit from the government support is wide and diverse. Last year, close to 1,000 requests for subsidies were approved.
