They were struggling to contain the blaze but had not yet reported any casualties.

The fire, the origin of which remains undetermined, was spreading through the roof of the building with a significant risk it could spread to adjacent buildings, Lieutenant-Colonel Emmanuel Viaud of the Savoie Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) told AFP.

The fire broke out shortly before 7:00 pm (1800 GMT), and firefighters quickly responded to evacuate 260 guests from the Grandes Alpes hotel in the Courchevel 1850 resort, the officer explained.

Around 60 firefighters and 50 vehicles were deployed to contain the blaze.

“There are no casualties at this time,” Viaud said, adding that the hotel’s managers assured the firefighters that everyone is accounted for.
