A new pilot project has been launched in the hospitality sector to determine if customers want to have the choice of ordering free tap water.

According to a survey, every second drink ordered by restaurant guests is still or sparkling water. In a recent motion, the Left thus argued that restaurants should offer tap water for free and indicate so on their menus. The party believes that the quality of Luxembourg's tap water is good and that it is a more sustainable way of staying hydrated than relying on bottled water.

The hospitality sector has now launched a test phase to determine the success of the initiative. 50 businesses across Luxembourg are set to participate in the pilot project and will serve clients tap water in reusable glass bottles. However, representatives of the sector remain firm on their position that businesses should be free to offer tap water at a price of their choice.
