The CR356 route between Savelborn and Ermsdorf was closed to traffic in both directions shortly after 9.00am on Thursday morning, following the discovery of a WWII grenade.

Initial reports suggested a grenade from the Second World War was discovered on the stretch of road, forcing bomb disposal units from the army's demining services (SEDAL) to set up a 450-metre safety perimeter.

According to police, the device in question was a German artillery shell. It was disposed of at around 10.40am.

The ACL confirmed the road had reopened after 11.00am.

On Wednesday, another WWII explosive device discovered near the Burden tunnel caused chaos on Luxembourg's railways, disrupting train services for hours.
