The Avenue de la Libération in Schifflange is set to undergo structural changes, with a new car park replacing the former park.
Local officials plan to create an underground car park in the town centre, which can fit between 140 and 150 vehicles. Construction work on this project is scheduled to begin shortly before or after summer, and is expected to last for two years.
Costs of the construction project are estimated to range between €11 and €12 million. Until the underground car park is ready, a provisional space has been set up to already make room for up to 50 vehicles.
There will be space for more housing eventually, as an old barn is to be torn down. This site will also make space for local associations, as well as a medical centre.
The town of Schifflange has a population of 11,500 people. Local officials expect that number to cross the 12,000 threshold in the not too distant future.
