The LSAP Minister rejects accusations of flagging interest in rural affairs.
On Tuesday evening, the "Bauerenzentral" farmers organisation held their annual general assembly, during which they offered strong words of criticism for the Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development. Schneider stands accused of not being available enough and failing to react to their proposals.
Minister Schneider firmly denies the accusations, offering the following commentary: "Apparently, there are supposed to be unanswered letters lying around at the Ministry. However, we never got an official letter from the Bauerenzentral, only a personal account from one of their members. Furthermore, the organisation asked for a meeting on 19 April, and we sat down together a mere ten days later".
Minister Schneider stated that in preceding weeks, a further two meetings were held to discuss the implementation of the PAC agriculture reform. He further insisted that enough is being done to support businesses in the sector, and also underlined that some other organisations have shown a more positive attitude toward the future.
Finally, the LSAP politician also denied the accusation that the government no longer pays attention to the agricultural sector. Minister Schneider emphasised that politicians still do everything in their power to help, winemakers—professionally known as as vintners—,farmers, and gardeners alike.
