The Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch (CHEM) is exploring the possibility of establishing a new satellite facility at the recently opened GridX complex in Wickrange, according to statements made to the press.
In an article published last Friday in Lëtzebuerger Land, CHEM Director René Metz confirmed that a “feasibility study” and “preliminary analysis” are currently in progress.
When contacted for comment by RTL, the hospital declined to elaborate, stating only that the press would be informed of any “interesting information” in the future.
Alex Giorgetti, in charge of the GridX project, confirmed that preliminary discussions with the hospital are underway. He highlighted the location’s strategic advantages, noting its position in the southeastern part of the country and its connection to the tram network linking Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette as key appealing factors.
Giorgetti added that while 90% of the complex’s space is already rented, there would still be room to accommodate medical facilities.
The GridX complex is already hosting temporary tenants, including the Luxembourg School of Hospitality and Tourism (EHTL), which will remain until Sanem Castle is ready for its use.
The specific type of medical services that might be offered at a potential CHEM antenna remains undetermined. Director Metz assured Lëtzebuerger Land that opening a new location would not impact the hospital’s existing satellite operations in Niederkorn and Dudelange.
A final decision on the project is expected within the coming months.
