The Luxembourgish government has declared the floods to be a natural disaster, which means that businesses that have suffered material damage can request support from the state.

The Horesca federation had already demanded such aid on Thursday morning. Hotels, restaurants and cafés had already suffered significant financial hardship due to the pandemic, making the floods even more of a blow to the sector.

Particularly affected is the Hotel Gruber in Steinheim, which lies immediately next to the Sure River. Fränz Aulner from RTL.lu gave the Gruber family a call, who explained that they have known floods before, but never so extreme. Not only refrigerators, wine supplies and food supplies are completely destroyed, but also their private home.
