The public prosecutor's office issued a statement on Wednesday following the news that Amazon France have pulled blow-up sex dolls representing children from their site.
Amazon removed the items from their French e-commerce site and blocked the vendor, following an intervention by the French government. However, the Luxembourg prosecutor's statement said if such objects were for sale on Amazon, it was to be expected that they would be sold elsewhere online. The online shopping giant ships to Luxembourg, among many other destinations.
In the statement, the prosecutor's office confirmed its zero-tolerance stance on child pornography. The act of purchasing, owning or viewing such products is punishable by law, risking fines of €50,000 or a 3 year prison sentence. Any infractions would be investigated and prosecuted.
The very idea of presenting young children as sexual objects intended to satisfy the pleasures of adults is deeply shocking and goes against the grain of the various campaigns launched by the authorities and the various associations to raise public awareness about sexual abuse, said the prosecutor's office.
