The sheep were found dead in a meadow in Niederanven on 27 April, showing signs of a predator attack.

Experts from the Nature Administration are examining the sheep for bite wounds. They have not ruled out the possibility that the attack was carried out by a wolf, in contrast to a recent case in Ingeldorf where a sheep was attacked by dogs.

Samples from the bite marks have been sent to a laboratory for verification. DNA results are expected to take a few weeks.

The presence of wolves has been detected in the Grand Duchy before, in 2017 and 2018. According to officials, any signs indicating the presence of a wolf must be communicated to the Nature Administration by email (wolf@anf.etat.lu).
