
The police also conducted a series of alcohol checks in several locations, including Dippach, Luxembourg City, Leudelange and Hesperange. A total of 414 drivers were breath-tested. 18 tests returned positive results, and five driving licences were confiscated.
One driver was fined €145 and lost two penalty points because their vehicle inspection certificate was no longer valid. Another motorist was fined €74 for driving with an expired road tax disc that had been out of date for fewer than 60 days. In another instance, a young driver was fined €24 twice for not carrying his driving licence nor his probationary driving logbook.
Separately, police were called to Rue de la Gare in Kleinbettingen on Thursday afternoon after a car was reported to be stationary in the middle of the road. Officers quickly established that the driver had been drinking alcohol, and their licence was provisionally withdrawn.
A similar incident occurred on Saturday morning at around 2.30am in Brouch. Police were alerted to a driver who no longer appeared to have control of their vehicle. Officers managed to stop the car and found that alcohol was again involved.
