Luxembourg floodingFire fighters involved in 320 interventions overnight

RTL Today
Luxembourg's fire crews were bombarded with calls for help as several people required rescue from the floods.

The 112 call centre dealt with high numbers of calls on Monday evening due to heavy rain which caused widespread flooding across the country. The majority of interventions concerned flooded basements and roads, according to reports.
Firefighters had to rescue three people whose cars were stuck on flooded roads in Mertzig and Mertert.

The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps said 50 fire and rescue centres were mobilised for 320 interventions, supported by the aquatic rescue team. The situation was normalised by 2am.

On Tuesday morning, the Water Management Authority indicated they were in “alert phase”, and warned against a risk of major floods, causing overflows likely to have a significant impact on people and goods. The Alzette alert level has been breached in several stations, while the Sûre river is in pre-alert and the Moselle is in vigilance phase.

Police have also warned that cars stationed in several car parks in Mersch and Ettelbruck ought to be moved as soon as possible, as the risk of damage and pollution will increase as flooding continues.
