The Luxembourgish government has confirmed that it will take at least two years for recreational cannabis to be legalised in the Grand Duchy.

The government confirmed the timeline to the Saarländischen Rundfunk. The justification for the timeline is that the draft bill requires at least that amount of time.

The government also revealed that the legislation would put a lot of emphasis on both prevention and state quality checks. Speaking to RTL, Minister of Health Etienne Schneider confirmed that there are delays in working on policy relating to legislation. He added that a group of experts would come together in the next few weeks to focus on the legalisation process.

Finally, the minister stressed that legalising recreational cannabis is a project he wishes to push forward before he steps down from his role.
