This was revealed in a recent interview in German newspaper Spiegel's online edition.
Criticising the lead-up to the now infamous Brexit referendum, Juncker said that he regrets not getting involved at the time: "Looking at it today, I think that was a big mistake. So many lies were told, including by current Prime Minister Boris Johnson."
Juncker also noted that he was not one of the many who believed the UK would vote - if narrowly - in favour of remaining in the EU in the 2016 referendum. He claimed that even as far back as 2014, he had warned David Cameron — who campaigned for Remain — that he would lose the referendum if he called for it. Juncker also said he made a bet with then-European commissioner of British nationality Jonathan Hill on the matter — £1 for Juncker if he was correct, €1 for Hill if he was not. He said he has that pound today.
