The statement was equally addressed to the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Home Affairs, calling for the authorities to not yet make a decision on reclassifying the land due to become a massive Google data centre.

In the press release, Mouveco stressed that there is not sufficient data and research concerning the amount of water that the potential data centre will use. However, estimates suggest this could be around 10% of the entire country's use.

The organisation highlighted its concern, given that the authorities are due to make a decision on changing the 34 hectare from a green zone to a special 'data centre zone' on 20 June without knowing all the facts about the data centre's potential impact.

Allegedly, the authorities maintain that the water used by the data centre would be taken from natural water flows rather than the SEBES (Syndicat des eaux du barrage d'Esch-sur-Sûre - Water union of the Esch-sur-Sûre dam) network, which is in charge of Luxembourg's drinking water. The organisation expressed cynicism against this stance, querying whether that would even be possible in the summer months. Consequently, the organisation is concerned that the data centre's water use could take away from the country's drinking water.

Mouveco concluded by highlighting that if the council votes for the reclassification, it will choose to pursue the matter in the courts.
