Katy Perry took fans at Luxexpo on a musical journey through nearly 20 years of hits on Tuesday evening. The US singer performed most of her biggest songs, including California Girls, Teenage Dream, Dark Horse, E.T., Hot N Cold, Part of Me, Thinking of You, Firework, and Roar.
As the night went on, the atmosphere steadily intensified, with the crowd singing along more loudly to each familiar chorus.
This visit marked Perry's second performance in Luxembourg, following her debut at Rockhal in 2009, shortly after she broke through internationally with I Kissed a Girl. Perry shared with the audience that she wore the same dress for this return concert as she did back in 2009, a connection highlighted by a photo from that earlier performance shown on the giant screens.
At one point in the evening, Perry staged a virtual phone call from JPJT, a playful allusion to her partner, Justin Trudeau – whose full name is Justin Pierre James Trudeau.
The day before the concert, Perry and Trudeau were seen in Luxembourg City with Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. However, the former Canadian prime minister did not appear at the concert itself.
The concert also featured astronauts on stage, futuristic backdrops, and a Luxembourg flag – a clear reference to both Perry's planned trip to the edge of space in 2025 with a Blue Origin mission, and Luxembourg's prominent role in the space industry.
For Luxembourgish fans, the space motif may have recalled the country's position as a leader in the international space sector. While Luxembourg has yet to send an astronaut to the Moon, it has long contributed to the global space industry through companies like SES and other local firms. Whether Perry was aware of this connection is unknown.
After nearly one hour and 40 minutes, Perry closed the evening with Firework and wished everyone a wonderful summer.
Weather on Tuesday evening, it seemed, was just as Perry had ordered: although a brief shower fell before her set, it barely dampened fans’ spirits.
