
In May, the number of requests declined, with 17 fewer appeals compared to April. A total of 58 appeals for full protection were submitted, 53 of which came from Ukraine. A similar trend surfaced over the whole year – out of 386 people who requested temporary protection in Luxembourg, 90.4% (349 people) came from Ukraine, as recent numbers of the Minister of Home Affairs demonstrated. 4.9% were filled by Algerian protection seekers.
When it comes to international protection appeals, 171 were submitted in May, which increases the current yearly amount to 793. The majority of applications came from Eritrea (60), Syria (26), Venezuela (9) and Turkey. Six applications each were submitted by national from Guinea, Kosovo, and Tanzania. Lastly, five protection appeals were sent by Sudanese nationals. As of now, the Ministry of Home Affairs has received 209 requests.
