A major fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning at a residential complex in Bamertal, Diekirch, prompting a large-scale emergency response involving 70 firefighters and multiple fire and rescue units.

Shortly before 4.00am on Sunday, 8 June 2025, emergency services were alerted to a serious fire at a residential building in Bamertal, within the commune of Diekirch.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a significant blaze involving the roofs of two multi-family homes, with flames threatening to spread to a third property. The fire was attacked from multiple fronts, including with the deployment of two aerial ladder platforms.

By approximately 7.15am, the fire was brought under control reported Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), although final extinguishing operations are ongoing and are expected to continue throughout the morning. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the emergency teams, the spread to the third roof was successfully prevented.

A total of 70 firefighters – both professional and volunteer – were mobilised at the scene. The operation also included support from the Centre de Soutien Logistique (CSL), whose supply unit was deployed to assist.

The Diekirch municipal authorities are currently coordinating the rehousing of affected residents.

Meanwhile, the emergency services (CGDIS) was activated to monitor developments and ensure operational coverage remains in place throughout the sector.

As of now, no injuries have been reported.
