Parliamentary questions6,220 drivers fined for using their phones while driving

From April 2024 to April 2025, approximately 6,220 drivers were fined because they were caught using their smartphones while driving.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Justice, in response to a parliamentary question asked by Democratic Party deputy André Bauler, revealed 6,220 drivers were fined for using their phone while driving between April 2024 and April 2025.

The fine for the offence is €250 plus four points on the offender’s driving license.

In addition, there were 20 cases of mobile phone use where a police report was written in the context of an accident. Of the approximately 6,220 drivers, 32 were caught using their phone while cycling.
