Last year, around 500 bicycles were stolen in Luxembourg, practically double the number stolen the year before. The police have launched an awareness campaign for this reason, including police presence at major cycling events so they can inform cyclists on how best to protect their equipment against theft.

Pascal Peters, central director of the administrative police, said that it was important that bike owners photographed their equipment and noted down the number on the frame, which is unique to each bicycle. In the event of theft, this information would assist police in tracking down the stolen vehicle. Peters urged cyclists to file this information when making a statement to the police.

The visuals for the campaign's posters and leaflets, to be used by police to spread awareness, were developed byJeff  Mandres, a pupil in Première E at the Lycée Michel Rodange of Luxembourg.
