Nearly 1,500 young people gathered in Beringen near Mersch for the 49th edition of “Landjugenddag” (Country Youth Day) on Thursday, with the event’s signature scavenger hunt anchoring a day of camaraderie and light-hearted competition.
Organised in rotation by seven regional groups, this year’s festivities fell to the Centre region.
The gathering – a hallmark of Luxembourg’s rural youth community – doubled as a transition for the Luxembourg Country Youth and Young Farmers association, marking Jil Thorn’s inaugural day as president following Marthe Bourg’s tenure. The association’s membership spans youth clubs primarily from rural areas, alongside young farmers either recently established or preparing to take over family operations.
Fostering social connections remains central to the event and the scavenger hunt is the highlight of every edition. Some 200 teams tackled this year’s 9km course.
