Télévie is a nationwide fundraising campaign that brings together communities, schools and organisations to support cancer research through local events and donations.

What is Télévie?

Télévie is an annual fundraising campaign supporting scientific research in the fight against cancer and leukaemia, with a special focus on childhood cancers. The initiative began in Belgium in 1989, launched by RTL-TVI in collaboration with the National Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.–FNRS). Luxembourg joined the campaign in 2002, with RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg and the Kiwanis Foundation Luxembourg leading the effort.

The campaign runs for several weeks and concludes with a nationwide televised event that reveals the final amount raised – a celebration of community solidarity and support for life-saving research.

How does Télévie work?

Each year, people across Luxembourg and Belgium get involved – from individuals and schools to companies and local organisations. They raise money through raffles, sporting challenges, concerts and more.

Donations are collected by phone, online, or in person at authorised events. Only Kiwanis Luxembourg is permitted to collect cash donations, and only on designated days. Organisers also advise caution during the campaign period, as fraudsters have attempted to exploit Télévie's name in the past.

All funds raised in Luxembourg go directly to cancer research conducted locally. The F.R.S.–FNRS selects the scientific projects and ensures that 100% of the donations are allocated to research – with all evaluation costs covered separately by the organisation.

How much has Télévie raised?

Since its launch in Luxembourg in 2002, Télévie has raised more than €28 million for cancer research. Recent fundraising totals include:

  • 2024 – €1,454,376

  • 2023 – €1,639,570

  • 2022 – €2,060,211 (a record total)

  • 2021 – €1,242,004

  • 2020 – €975,136

  • 2019 – €2,005,842

  • 2018 – €1,674,429

  • 2017 – €1,620,455

  • 2016 – €1,567,596

  • 2015 – €1,550,847

  • 2014 – €1,389,098

  • 2013 – €1,153,928

These totals are revealed during the annual closing show, broadcast on all RTL platforms, which also features live music, interviews with researchers and families, and appearances by national figures, including Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.

Why does Télévie matter?

Cancer continues to affect thousands of families in Luxembourg every year. Over 3,000 people are diagnosed annually, and approximately one in four does not survive. Despite progress in treatment, many cancers – especially in children – remain poorly understood or difficult to cure.

Télévie helps advance scientific research into new treatments, diagnostics and cures, bringing hope to patients and families.
