You've already got the monthly What's On picks for family, but it's time you get the low-down. Here are our top favourites for this week!
What's going on this week? We've got longer days and lots of things to do during them.
Thursday
Get the weekend started early by watching Das Hässliche Entlein at Mersch Theater. This play, which is in German, is about a young man from the city who finds himself stranded alone in the countryside after missing his bus. He gets drawn to the stories in his grandmother's suitcase. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale, this play follows the journey of an 'ugly duckling' who goes through a transformation!
Friday
Starting on Friday, Fréijoer op der Gëlle Fra starts up again! Visit the square at the Golden Lady to see spring decorations, custom street furniture, a pétanque court and catering stands. It's the perfect place to listen to some live music as you welcome the warmer weather!
Saturday
On Saturday, you'll want to head over to the Casino no matter what age your children are.
For those between 12 and 19 years of age, the Casino is hosting the event, Parting, Fusing, Telling. This workshop introduces participants to hands-on film production, where they will manually edit and assemble looping film sequences. Instead of following a single linear narrative, they will create interconnected stories, and interact with media in a brand new way.
And for the younger ones (from 6 to 12 years old), Casino has another workshop called Pressed and Poured. Here, kids will discover how liquid transforms into solid by learning all about the process of plaster casting. Using simple moulds and techniques, they will make their own sculptures and let their imagination go wild.
Not feeling an artsy workshop? Want to take it easy and maybe watch a movie? Cinémathèque will be screening the first installment of the Harry Potter movies: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone! Whether your kids already love the movies, or have never been introduced to them, it's the perfect weekend watch.
Sunday
Last, but definitely not least, here's another movie to go watch with the family. Cinémathèque is showing Kiriku und die Zauberin in German. This vibrant animation tells the story of Kiriku, a brave boy who sets out to lift the curse cast on his village by the sorceress Karaba. Based on a West African folktale, it’s a captivating adventure about courage, love, and justice. And it's recommended for children aged 6 and up!
See you next week for more info on what's going on in Luxembourg! And don't forget to check back because you'll have access to all the stuff that's happening in April very, very, very soon!
