Argentine entrepreneur Verónica Arias has settled in Luxembourg, blending her heritage with local life through family and her food truck.

Argentine entrepreneur Verónica Arias jumped continents when she moved to the Grand Duchy in 2021, returning to the home of her Luxembourgish great-grandparents who had emigrated to South America in the 19th century.

She highlights the importance of integration through language, cultural respect, and personal engagement while praising Luxembourg for offering an ideal environment for raising a family – safe, diverse, and well‑organised. She offers key advice for newcomers to Luxembourg that's both practical and inspiring.

What has been your experience of integrating in Luxembourg?

"Our experience has been very positive. Luxembourg welcomed us warmly, but I also believe integration is a two-way effort. Learning at least French, the country’s second language, and respecting local customs are essential.

My great-grandfather, Joan Nicholas Stempels, travelled to Argentina in 1889, where he built a life and a big family with my great-grandmother, María, who was Luxembourgish. He never returned to Luxembourg, so in a way, we are completing the circle – coming back to the land of our roots.

Now, through Sabores Argentina, our food truck, I also bring a little piece of Argentina back to Luxembourg, sharing the flavours of my homeland with the people here. I have had the opportunity to connect with many people and cultures, making the integration process even smoother.

We arrived with the right mindset, prepared to embrace a new chapter. Luxembourg is a well-organised country that makes adaptation easier. Of course, there are challenges, but when you come with motivation and a clear purpose everything becomes more manageable."

Do you feel that Luxembourg is an attractive place for families?

"Absolutely. Luxembourg is a great place to raise children. It offers security, excellent education, and a calm environment. It may not be as dynamic as a big city, but it provides a high quality of life and opportunities. It’s a country where families can enjoy nature, diversity, and a strong sense of community."

What was your experience of navigating the housing sector in Luxembourg?

"Housing is definitely one of the biggest challenges. Finding a rental can be difficult, and prices are high. However, with patience and persistence, everything falls into place. It’s a challenge, but not an impossible one!"

Did you find it easy to set up as an entrepreneur in Luxembourg?

"I run Sabores Argentina, a food truck that brings the authentic taste of Argentina to Luxembourg. Setting up a business here was not complicated, but like anywhere, it required preparation and determination. Luxembourg is open to new ideas, and I have felt a great response from the community. People here love discovering new flavours, and I’m happy to introduce them to our empanadas, choripán, alfajores, and other Argentine specialties. We bring a little piece of home to Luxembourg."

What have you found challenging?

"The language is the biggest challenge. Speaking French is essential to integrate well and communicate effectively. Another challenge is the housing market, but once you overcome these, life in Luxembourg becomes much easier."

How easy was it for you to make friends as an expat?

"It has been a great experience! Luxembourg is a multicultural country, and through my business, I’ve met wonderful people from different backgrounds. Food has an incredible way of bringing people together, and it has been a bridge to many friendships."

Do you see yourself staying here long-term?

"For now, yes. Luxembourg offers stability, safety, and a good quality of life. It’s a great place to grow personally and professionally. As long as I feel happy and motivated, I see myself staying."

Have you any advice to offer those starting out on their expat journey?

"My advice is to come with an open mind and a clear purpose. Don’t move to escape something – move to build something. Learn about the country, its culture, and its language. Be patient with challenges; they are part of the journey. If you come with motivation and a plan, you’ll find opportunities and happiness in Luxembourg."
