Summer is well under way and it helps to have some family activities up your sleeve. Check out these karting and bowling venues in and around Luxembourg.

Keeping the kids occupied during summer is no mean feat but, fortunately, Luxembourg boasts many family friendly options to keep your brood entertained.

Not least, a number of summer camps,  indoor playgrounds, outdoor playgrounds, child friendly museums, indoor and outdoor climbing, indoor swimming, swimming lakes and even some child friendly restaurants  when little tummies are rumbling.

For any petrol heads or ten pin bowling enthusiasts, karting tracks and bowling alleys can be found in and around the Grand Duchy.

Of course, it depends how far you travel but it could be another activity or two to have on reserve. During the summer holidays, some venues will be running special events, offering reduced tariffs or operating extended opening hours.

BOWLING

This September, the Luxembourg Bowling Federation (LBF) will host a tournament to mark 30 years of bowling. If you are more of a novice just looking for a rainy day activity with the kids, here are some family friendly suggestions.

Bowling Centre, Kockelscheuer

Open Tuesday to Sunday, bowling tariffs ranging from €22.50 to €42.50 per hour. Option to combine your bowling with food and drinks from a range of packages. Birthday party packages also available. Pricing varies on different days and times, check directly.

Fun-City, Pétange

A Western themed leisure venue open Tuesday to Sunday. ‘The Rock’ bowling alley, aptly named for its three dimensional rocky landscape design, offers 14 state-of-the-art bowling lanes. Bowling tariffs range between €24 and €46 per hour. Large snack bar offering drinks, cocktails and pizza baguettes.

Fun-City also has "The Saloon" pool and billiard room and the "Goldrush" indoor soft-play. Popular for kids' parties.

X-Treme Bowling & Billard, Foetz

Another fun venue with 20 bowling lanes. Bowling is charged per game ranging between €4 and €8. Other indoor games available such as billiards and snooker plus birthday packages are available.

Bowlingroom, Trier, Germany

Just over the border in Trier, Bowlingroom are running a kids summer holiday special every Friday from 13 July until 25 August, from 12pm until 6pm. An hour of bowling plus shoe hire is €5.50. Every Sunday is Family Day and on Sunday 18 August, a Children and Family Festival will run from 10am until 6pm offering children's bowling, duck fishing, children’s tattoos and painting, free sausage, chips and slushy for kids among other fun activities. Usual Sunday bowling prices will apply for adults and children bowl for free.

Bowlbar 32, Saarbrücken, Germany

Perhaps one to consider late summer and into early Autumn as it is currently under major renovation and expected to re-open September/October.

S’PACE, Arlon, Belgium

As well as 10 bowling lanes, S’PACE offers billiards, a gaming zone and sports bar serving food and drinks. If the weather permits, enjoy an ice cream on the terrace. Bowling tariffs are between €30 and €48 per hour.

Recrealle, Ardennes, Belgium

A small bowling alley with 3 lanes situated inside the Brasserie at Recrealle. Available for kids age 6+ and reasonably priced at €7 a game for all ages. A range of other activities available, too.

Adventure Valley, Durbuy, Belgium

Adventure Valley has a bowling alley, as well as many other activities for the whole family, if you visit here during the summer holidays. Bowling rates are €32 per track Monday to Thursday and €42 Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Kinebowl, Metz, France

Offering lower tariff rates on weekdays during school holidays plus reduced rates every Sunday, per hour and per game. Check directly for full details.
 
Atomic Bowl, Amnéville, France

A games and leisure venue with 20 bowling alleys, 12 skittle alleys, 4 squash courts, 2 billiard rooms and a video game area. Open all year round, from Tuesday to Sunday. Bowling tariffs range from €6 to €9 per person per game.

KARTING 

Someone in the family with a need for speed? Check out these indoor and outdoor race tracks for an exhilarating day out.

Karting Mondercange

An outdoor circuit stretching 876 metres long, between 7 and 8 metres wide. Operated by ACL so reduced rates for its members.

Single seater karts are for adults and children over the age of 8 (minimum height 130cm) and double seaters are for children over the age of 5. Adults can race up to 1 hour, normal and pro options, and children can race for 10 or 20 minutes.

Operating since 1974, the track opens annually from 1 April. The circuit has hosted numerous championships with renowned drivers such as Michael Schumacher and Jarno Trulli hitting the tarmac here. Many brand new karts for adults and children to hire.

The circuit offers something for everyone including corporate events. Online booking is available up to 3 weeks in advance.

Mini-cars, Remich

Less of the need for speed and on a somewhat smaller scale, Mini-cars in Remich is open every day throughout summer from 10am to 9pm for little ones. A 250m long racetrack for young children to drive small electric cars in the shape of a Harley Davidson or a police car. At €2 a ride its very reasonable.

Battlekart, Metz, France

A franchise with many locations across Europe, Trier or Metz are in closest proximity to Luxembourg. An immersive video gaming experience while karting, so a popular one with kids and youths who need to be a minimum of 1.45m tall. Game options include BattleColour, BattleRace and BattleSnake. Open all year round.
 
Metz Indoor Karting/Games Factory, France

Operating extended opening hours during school holidays from 8 July until 1 September, closed every Monday. A multi-activity complex boasting the largest indoor race track in France. Participants must be minimum height of 1.25m and age 7 or over.

NtKart Lexy, Longwy, France

700 metres of indoor race track over two levels here, wide enough to suit beginners but technical enough for more expert drivers. XXL Bridge feature, too. An on-site café overlooks the track, with the upper part of the track at window level.

The 160 cm³, 4.5 horsepower karts are suitable for children aged 7 to 14 with a minimum height of 1.3m  The 270 cm³, 9 horsepower karts are for ages 14+ with a minimum height of 1.5m. Races run in 10 minute slots. Also offer children’s birthday party packages which include drinks but bring your own cake!

Lommerange Racing Track, France

Another venue open all year round and less than a 1 hour drive from Luxembourg.  Participants must be a minimum height of 1. 4m and age 14 and over. Three different track options are available; the rental track, the clockwise competition track and the anti-clockwise competition track. Night driving after 7pm is possible for groups of at least 10 people. Sessions are €20 for 10 minutes.

Karting 55, Verdun, France

A 400 metre outdoor circuit adapted to all learning abilities and approved by the French Federation of Automobile Sport (FFSA), the DDJS (Departmental Directorate of Youth and Sports) and by the Prefecture of the Meuse. Events and birthday parties hosted here.

KartIn Oberlin, Nancy, France

This French karting school offers 400 metres of indoor track and 1,200 metres of outdoor track. Adult karting tariff applies from age 14, €20 for 10 minutes. Younger children can kart from age 7 with a minimum height of 1.25m, €15 for 10 minutes.

IdealKart, JuvainCourt, France

This venue offers 1,267 metres of karting track plus 1,753 metres of Supermoto track. Open 6 days a week (closed Tuesdays) for adults and children age 7+. 10 minute kart rental sessions are €18 for children aged 7 to 12 and €20 for age 13+.

GO! Indoor-e-kart, Kaiserslautern, Germany

For the more eco-conscious, environmentally friendly technology is used here and karts produce zero emissions. 400 metres of indoor track over 2 levels, open to all racers with a minimum height of 1.4m. Tariffs are €16 for 10 minutes, €24 for 15 minutes, €32 for 20 minutes and €48 for 30 minutes.. Open 7 days a week with varying hours, check directly.

Indoor KartBahn Bous, Saarland, Germany

Closer to Luxembourg than Go! Indoor-e-kart, Kartbahn offers weekly time slots exclusively for children to race but children are still welcome any day. Although they cannot race against adults. Kids pay €10 for 10 minutes. Children must be a minimum height of 1.4m to ride this indoor karting track. Also offers birthday parties.

Karthaus, Zweibrücken, Germany

Indoor karting open 7 days per week, for adults and kids with a minimum height of 1.4m and aged 8 and over. Various tariffs are available and weekly deals are often running so check directly. From 2025, paintball will also be available here.

JMKarting, Liege and Namur, Belgium

Extended opening hours during school holidays from 4pm at 2 locations, Namur  and Liege. Namur is the largest with a generous 1,000 metre track over 2 levels and Liege has 530 metres of race track featuring three bridges. €20 a session.

Karting de la Famenne, Aye (Marche-en-Famenne), Belgium

During July and August, this track is open 7 days a week 12:30pm to 5pm. 700 metres of race track on offer for racers age 8 plus. Adult tariff applies from age 10 and is €20 for 15 minutes. For children aged 8 – 10, €15 for 15 minutes. Kids aged 12 and over can also enjoy paintball, with parents’ permission.

Karting Bouillon, Belgium

During July and August, this venue is open every day from 10am to 7pm. 400 metres of circuit with three high performance karts available to hire. 10 minutes is €14 for children, €16 for dual racing and €22 for adults. Children must be at least 1.2m. Large terrace overlooks the race track.
 
Karting des Fagnes, Mariembourg, Belgium

With 1,366 metres of race track, it’s the biggest outdoor karting track in Belgium. Hosts a fleet of 42 karts to hire but for serious racers who have their own kart, private kart days are available. Minimum age of 12 and at least 1.5m to reach the pedals!

WIK Karting, Wavre, Belgium

Worth a mention for parents with little ones,as karts are available from age 3 on the WIKI racer track option. Larger karts are from age 8, minimum 1.3m and online booking is necessary. Check directly for tariffs.

The Experience Factory, Eupen, Belgium

One of the longest indoor kart tracks in the world, at 1.1km. Steep curves, bridges and tunnels all add to the experience. Two types of family options are available. Bambini rides are designed for children with little or no karting experience. Siblings and adults from the same family can also take part. Family rides are for families who have already done some karting. Various tariffs, see directly.
