LuxTrust chairman Serge Allegrezza to step down

The recent system outage at LuxTrust was the focus of discussion on RTL Radio on Thursday morning, where Serge Allegrezza, chairman of LuxTrust’s board of directors, announced that he will resign from his position.

Speaking on RTL’s Invité vun der Redaktioun, Allegrezza described the failure as embarrassing, despite LuxTrust being in his words a success story. He said he was satisfied with what had been achieved over the past 20 years, pointing to massive investment and a system that functions in 97% of cases. However, he acknowledged that the December outage had raised serious questions about LuxTrust’s reputation in Luxembourg.

As a result, Allegrezza said he had informed the board on Wednesday that he would step down in March. “It is now up to the board to decide on the new direction needed for LuxTrust”, he said, adding that he was not running away and would remain available if needed.

He conceded that the outage should not have happened, attributing the incident to a hardware fault and an issue with a fibre card failure.

Figure of the day

83 % of illnesses in Luxembourg are considered chronic

  • According to a new report by the National Health Observatory entitled Healthy Society Through Prevention, almost a quarter of people aged over 16 in Luxembourg live with at least one chronic health condition, highlighting the need for stronger preventive measures.
  • The report finds that chronic conditions account for 83% of all diseases in the country. Cancer is the most prevalent, affecting around 20% of patients, followed by cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders, mental health conditions, neurological illnesses, and diabetes. The figures show that nearly one in four adults is affected by at least one chronic illness, a situation the Observatory says can and must be addressed.
