In mid-December, LuxTrust suffered a technical failure that lasted almost 24 hours. During the outage, online bank transfers were unavailable, access to MyGuichet was disrupted, and several financial institutions were affected. The Minister for the Economy described the incident as unacceptable.

Speaking on RTL’s “Invité vun der Redaktioun”, Allegrezza described the failure as embarrassing, despite LuxTrust being in his words a success story. He said he was satisfied with what had been achieved over the past 20 years, pointing to massive investment and a system that functions in 97% of cases. However, he acknowledged that the December outage had raised serious questions about LuxTrust’s reputation in Luxembourg.

As a result, Allegrezza said he had informed the board on Wednesday that he would step down in March. “It is now up to the board to decide on the new direction needed for LuxTrust”, he said, adding that he was not running away and would remain available if needed.

He conceded that the outage should not have happened.

The interview also covered the consequences of the incident, LuxTrust’s dominant position in the market and the growing number of phishing attempts using the company’s identity.
