New figures show that domestic renewables now account for more than a quarter of the electricity consumed in the country

Last year, 26% of the electricity consumed in Luxembourg was also produced inside the country, up from just 16% of consumption being covered by national renewable production in 2020. The figures were unveiled by the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR) on Tuesday. Despite electromobility and the rollout of heat pumps, electricity consumption rose by almost 3% in a single year, since residential customers contribute far less to national consumption than industry.

In 2025, for the first time, more renewable electricity was generated by photovoltaics than by wind turbines. Self-consumption is rising along with it, with more and more people and companies that produce electricity now using it themselves rather than feeding it into the grid.

The all-in price for end users, covering electricity, network charges and taxes, has climbed by more than 30% in the space of a year. The jump is down to the expiry of the price cap introduced in the wake of the war in Ukraine. Gas, too, has become almost 11% more expensive over the past year as a result.

  • Coordinating operations at Findel is becoming ever more complex, Alexander Flassak said on Tuesday morning during an interview with RTL's Carine Lemmer. The airport is increasingly congested, he noted, and the runway has grown more sensitive to small disturbances, which now have major consequences.
  • In light of a recent accident involving a vintage plane, which led to the airport's runway being closed, affecting more than 5,200 passengers and 66 flights that were cancelled, diverted or delayed.
