Luxembourg has taken a further step in its support for Venezuela by organising a second wave of humanitarian aid in partnership with Belgium. Following the deployment of several experts who departed on Friday and Saturday, the two countries have now launched a coordinated mission to deliver additional assistance.
On Tuesday, a joint Luxembourg-Belgian A400M military transport plane took off from Melsbroek, Belgium, carrying two Luxembourgish experts from the Intervention Group for Humanitarian Missions, which forms part of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS). On board is a "Light Base Camp" module intended to bolster United Nations relief operations on the ground.
According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "the aircraft is also carrying essential supplies from Luxembourg's humanitarian stock, including generators and tents, as well as emergency equipment provided by Belgium."
The deployment follows the earlier dispatch of a Luxembourgish team over the weekend, which travelled to Venezuela to provide satellite communication solutions as part of the initial phase of assistance.
