  • This is the number of test runs Joe Root now has after he finally got the century in Australia that had been missing from his records
  • Joe Root’s excellent century in Brisbane on the 1st day of the 2nd Ashes Test – the first of his prolific career in Australia – puts to bed any lingering debate over his status as a giant of the sport.
Only Sachin Tendulkar is above Root in the all-time Test run-scoring charts and the retired Indian’s tally of 15,921 runs appears within reach of the 34-year-old Englishman.
  • Root ended the day on 135 not out, having put on a last wicket stand of 61 with Jofra Archer, and they will start day 2 hoping to make a few more runs before Australia get their turn.
