SCHOOL EXAMS Final secondary school exams begin today at Luxembourg's lycées. Nearly 4,000 students are sitting their exams and young women make up a slight majority at just over 56%. We wish them all the best of luck.

MUSEUM DAYS – Luxembourg Museum Days this weekend were another success. More than 20,000 visitors took advantage of free entry across 36 museums , an increase of nearly 9% on last year.

FUEL PRICES – Some good news awaits motorists, as fuel prices seem to be falling in Luxembourg. Since Saturday, diesel prices have even dropped below petrol. Currently, a litre of diesel is €1.81, some six cents less than on Friday. SP95 petrol remains stable at €1.82 per litre. This means for a full tank of 50 litres, drivers are looking at around €90 for diesel and €91 for petrol.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST – Bulgaria's Dara was given a hero's welcome home in Sofia on Sunday after her surprise Eurovision win in Vienna, meaning Bulgaria will host the contest in 2027. Meanwhile, Luxembourg's own place at next year's Eurovision is not yet confirmed, with the government expected to decide on continued participation in the coming weeks.

World

IRAN WAR – US President Trump is keeping up the pressure on Iran, dismissing Tehran's latest peace proposals as worthless and warning that time is running out. Writing on Truth Social, he said that if Iran does not move forward, nothing of the country will be left. Trump also spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who stressed that Israel is prepared for every scenario. According to Israeli media, the army is on its highest state of alert and is awaiting a decision from the United States.

The United Arab Emirates has again come under drone attack, with a fire breaking out at a nuclear power plant. Authorities say the facility's safety is not in question. The origin of the drone was not specified. Since the start of the Iran war, the UAE has been targeted by more than 3,000 Iranian rockets and drones.

The Iran conflict is also on the agenda today in Paris, where G7 finance ministers are meeting. Representatives of the seven major western industrial nations will discuss the economic impact of the conflict, as well as aid to Ukraine, dependence on raw materials, inequalities in world trade and the fight against terrorism and crime.

AMNESTY EXECUTIONS – The number of executions worldwide rose sharply last year, according to Amnesty International. More than 2,700 people were executed in 17 countries, a rise of 78% and the highest figure since 1981. Amnesty says the real total is likely far higher. China carries out the most executions.

HANTAVIRUS SHIPA Dutch cruise ship is expected to dock in Rotterdam this morning following a deadly hantavirus outbreak on board. Three passengers died during an Atlantic crossing from Argentina. The remaining passengers were evacuated in Tenerife, and a small number of crew are still on board. Health authorities are preparing a controlled disembarkation and full disinfection of the vessel on arrival.

Sport

BASKETBALL – Etzella Ettelbrück are champions for the second year running. They beat Sparta Bartreng 87 to 81 on Sunday, sweeping the best-of-five series 3-0,a 17th men's title in the club's history.

FOOTBALL – In national football, the BGL Ligue title race goes all the way to the final day. League leaders and defending champions Differdange beat Käerjeng 2-0, but Bissen hammered Canach 5-0 to keep the pressure on. The two sides will now meet next weekend in a winner-takes-all title decider.

Paris Saint-Germain lifted the Ligue 1 trophy but then lost 2-1 away to neighbours Paris FC on Sunday in their last game before the Champions League final against Arsenal. Meanwhile Lille secured qualification for the Champions League on the final night of the French season.

Chelsea have just announced the appointment of Xabi Alonso as their manager on a four year contract starting in July, available after leaving Real Madrid by mutual consent in January. The Blues will be hoping he can bring some stability to the club after going through two permanent managers this seaso.

TENNIS – Jannik Sinner won the Italian Open on Sunday after beating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4.World number one Sinner has now completed the 'Golden Masters' by winning all of the ATP's top-ranked events.

GOLF – England's Aaron Rai has won the PGA Championship – his first major title – becoming the first Englishman to claim the trophy in over a century. Rai finished three strokes clear of Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley with a final round of 65.

Weather

Expect a wet start to the day with rain showers moving through before midday. The afternoon brings brighter spells and a chance of some sunshine, but the odd shower can't be ruled out. Temperatures will climb from around 8–10°C this morning to a pleasant 15°C this afternoon. A moderate westerly wind will be felt throughout the day with gusts reaching 35 kilometres per hour.
