The children were playing outside when they found a bag containing a white substance, local Dutch media report. It occurred in the southern town of Tegelen.
“These children are at an age where they want to discover what they’ve found,” explained board member Rob Thuijls of the education foundation Kerobei, which the primary school is part of. “A teacher saw it happen and immediately called the police.”
After an investigation, police confirmed it was indeed the remains of a bag of cocaine.
The students were taken to hospital out of precaution, but all were doing well and released soon after.
However, it is difficult for police to continue the investigation: “The bag was not in the schoolyard, which changes the story. In addition, it is difficult to find out who dropped the bag there,” a spokesperson said.
“It is not the case that we often find drugs around the schoolyard here,” said Thuijls.
