The Luxembourg government plans to acquire two plots of land in the municipality of Strassen to build a new accredited European School, a project set to be presented to the Parliamentary Finance Committee on Tuesday.
The state has reached an agreement to purchase the centrally located land for €72 million. The planned school is a large-scale project designed to accommodate up to 1,900 pupils, responding to the growing demand for European secondary education. The site will include sports halls, a swimming pool, and several additional facilities.
Currently, the site houses a 10,000 m² building with 201 parking spaces, which is leased by the Ministry of Health at an annual cost of €2.9 million, excluding charges. According to the Ministry of Finance, the project will eliminate this rental expense during the planning and construction phase for the new school.
The €72 million figure covers only the land acquisition. The budget for the construction of the school and its associated infrastructure has not yet been determined.
