Police were kept busy across Luxembourg over several days beginning on Friday 1 May, with a series of incidents resulting in multiple arrests.
On Labour Day itself at 9.30am, a patrol responding to a call in Schieren came across an individual smoking cannabis in the street. A routine check revealed they were carrying a knife and a small quantity of hashish. The discovery prompted further investigation: the person had previously been linked to drug trafficking and had a conviction to their name.
Officers subsequently obtained a search warrant for the individual's home, where cash and additional hashish were found. The public prosecutor ordered their arrest.
Shortly before noon on Saturday, police raided a property on Avenue Lucien Salentiny in Ettelbruck on suspicion that it was being used by drug dealers. Five people were found on the premises, along with a quantity of various drugs, drug paraphernalia, cash and a significant sum of counterfeit money. One of the five was arrested.
Sunday brought a more unusual incident, when police were called to the train station in Bettembourg after reports of an armed and threatening individual. Officers identified a suspect who was found to be carrying an airsoft gun and had threatened several members of the public.
Later that same Sunday afternoon, a drug trafficking operation in Bettel resulted in another arrest. On Op der Knupp, a patrol dispatched to the scene found a bag of cannabis. A subsequent search yielded no further seizures, but the resident was taken into custody.
In the early hours of Monday morning, police in Bettembourg apprehended three individuals who had attempted to break into a house on Rue Sigefroi. Disturbed by neighbours, the trio fled but were caught during a police manhunt. All three suspects were arrested and brought before a judge.
