
Over the course of the 2024/2025 academic year, a total of 1,714 students dropped out of school in Luxembourg, representing a slight decrease compared to previous years, according to a survey by the Ministry of Education.
The dropout rate stood at 7.4% for the period, down from 8.2% in the previous academic year – a difference of 170 students. Below is an overview of dropout rates since the 2020/2021 academic year:
When excluding students who re-enrolled in some form of vocational training shortly after leaving, the effective dropout rate for the 2024/2025 academic year falls to 5.7%, compared with 6.3% for 2023/2024.
Boys remain more likely to drop out than girls, the survey found. Most students leave school during Year Three or Four of secondary education, which represent key crossroads in students' educational pathways.
