In a letter sent out this week to the Chamber of Deputies, the Ministry of State requests a consultative debate on a sectorial or universal vaccine mandate in early January. The government intends to use this debate as a basis for a draft bill that will create a legal framework for a vaccine mandate in Luxembourg.
Due to the urgency of the situation, it is the wish of Prime Minister Xavier Bettel that the debate should be scheduled for the session week after 7 January. In this context, the government has offered to draft a synthesis to allow MPs to prepare themselves adequately for the debate.
During the vote on the latest Covid-19 law, the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) demanded the introduction of a universal vaccine mandate against the coronavirus. Meanwhile, the majority parties submitted a motion requesting a consultative debate on Christmas Eve, which led the Prime Minister to state that Minister of Justice Sam Tanson is currently preparing a draft bill for a vaccine mandate, which is expected to be available for the consultative debate.
