On Friday, Xavier Bettel answered a question that many self-employed workers have been asking since the government extended paternity leave to ten days, namely: when will the self-employed benefit from the same paternity leave?
The answer, however, will be a disappointed to those affected. Bettel responded that while the government plans to devote the time necessary to developing reforms, it cannot indicate any precise dates at this stage.
The prime minister explained that the introduction of this action constituted one element of a broader set of measures reforming the status of the self-employed, which is slowing down the procedure.
It is important to note that, according to the coalition agreement, the paternity leave of ten days which employees can benefit from would also be made available to those who are self-employed.
To date, no bill or even draft legislation has been tabled on this subject.
