New Covid measuresWe are trying to get through winter, says François Bausch

RTL Today
The Deputy PM and Minister of Defence was a guest on RTL Radio on Tuesday morning.

Minister Bausch explained that everyone within the government has become tired of the pandemic and renewed restrictions, but that there is no way around them as long as the national vaccination rate is not higher. Still, the decision to introduce new measures was not an easy one, the politician from The Greens admitted.

Minister Bausch further elaborated on the efficiency of the vaccine, comparing current infection and hospital numbers with those recorded around the same time last year. He emphasised that even if vaccinated people can still spread the virus, chances of hospitalisation spikes remain low if everyone else is vaccinated too.

When asked about the 3G rule at work, the Minister conveyed that the government is still conducting talks with the respective social partners to implement the plan. He also noted that CovidChecks have to be paired with identity checks in the future, not because the government is trying to create a “surveillance state”, but rather to get us “through winter”.

When confronted with the announced departure of LSAP Ministers Kersch and Schneider, Minister Bausch underlined that he can understand their decision to step down: “People often think the job of a minister is to cut ribbons at weekend events, but I can tell you, it is back-breaking work on a daily basis.”

Minister Bausch concluded by wishing his two colleagues the best for their future endeavours and ensured that there are no personnel changes planned within the Green Party.
