
The politician confirmed his changeover on Friday afternoon, thus bringing the composition of Walferdange’s municipal council to an equilibrium between the largest political parties. The Democratic Party now holds five seats at the council, as does the Christian Social People’s Party. Meanwhile, the Greens have two, and following their latest loss, the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party has only one left. The mayoral council is made up of a Green and CSV coalition, and is headed by CSV mayor François Sauber.
Alan Weins has been in office as a local councillor since 2000, having been an alderman/deputy mayor from 2003 to 2017. His Thursday press release stated that his departure from the LSAP was the right political move.
The socialist party was no longer the same one he joined 20 years ago, Weins explained, and was progressing towards a stronger Leftist ideology. Since this was the party’s choice, it was something that he would have to respect, however the move does not align with the politics he himself engaged in.
