Alongside the voucher scheme, the municipality also offered additional financial aid worth €4,000 to each business. The scheme has proved to be successful thus far, with around 900 participants - 60% of affected businesses. The municipality has once again issued an appeal to businesses, encouraging them to make use of the scheme.
Would-be participants can submit their applications on 3 July at the Hall Victor Hugo.
The vouchers will be distributed at a later date by the city council and must be spent in the shops from whence they were issued.
The City of Luxembourg has invested around 6 million euros in the scheme to support local commerce. Banks and estate agents were excluded from the businesses eligible for financial aid. The municipality hopes the scheme will encourage consumers to make use of the city's shops after the health crisis.
