People suffering from hay fever are warned that the country may have reached the peak of its pollen season.

The heat and sunshine "promote the spread of high concentrations" of these pollen, according to the RNSA.

Between 12 and 15% of the population are allergic to pollen and often find themselves confined to their homes to escape the unwelcome affliction.

People suffering from pollen allergies are advised to ventilate their home early in the morning or late at night, which is when pollen counts are usually lowest. The precautionary stay-at-home maxim of course also applies.

In addition, people should rinse their hair at night, do not dry laundry outside, keep car windows clean, and avoid sports outside.#
