US Secretary of State Marco Rubio marked Luxembourg's National Day by highlighting the countries' historic friendship, strong economic ties, and Luxembourg's renewed commitment to NATO defence spending.

In a press release issued on 23 June by the US State Department, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended his congratulations to Luxembourg on the occasion of its National Day. “On behalf of the people of the United States of America, may this Luxembourg National Day be a joyous celebration filled with peace and prosperity”, the statement reads.

Rubio underscored the longstanding friendship between the United States and the Grand Duchy, highlighting the historical bond forged during the liberation of Luxembourg in the Second World War. He also praised the strong trade and investment ties between the two nations, noting their role in fostering economic growth and job creation on both sides of the Atlantic.

Finally, Rubio welcomed Luxembourg’s recent commitment to increasing its defence spending within the NATO framework, describing it as a step in strengthening the alliance.
